Do you know that you have a duty to provide first aid to an injured person?

Do you know that you have a duty to provide first aid to an injured person?

In accordance with Article 4 of the Act on State Emergency Medical Services:
Anyone “who has noticed a person or persons in a state of health emergency, or an
event causing such a state of health emergency, shall, to the best of his or her ability
and skills, take immediate action to effectively notify the state-run emergency
services.”

What if you fail to provide such assistance?

In accordance with Article 162 of the Criminal Code:
Anyone “who fails to render assistance to a person in a situation threatening loss of
life or grievous bodily harm, being able to do so without endangering himself or
another person with loss of life or grievous bodily harm, shall be liable to
imprisonment for up to three years.”

Where to get knowledge on how to give first aid

Where to get knowledge on how to give first aid?

  • First Aid training organised by numerous external organisations
    (e.g. Polish Red Cross (PCK), Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP))
  • Periodic training in occupational health and safety
  • First Aid training courses for employees of Wrocław University of Science and Technology
    are organised annually (usually in the second half of September) and are conducted by paramedics
    from the Air Rescue Service in Wrocław.

What do you need to know in Regulation to be able to effectively assist an injured person? 
Before anything else... Do not be indifferent, because you could find yourself in a similar situation.

 Start the survival chain, which consists of:

  •  recognising the incident early and calling for help
  • early initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • early defibrillation
  • post-resuscitation care
